Illustration Friday - Chicken

Have drawn loads of chickens for various books and projects...  This is one of my favourites, which was done for PLAYDAYS magazine, which accompanied the BBC series of the same name.

See also Hatch and Hatch 2.

  1. Lovely illustration - my daughter's first outing to the theatre was to see PLAYDAYS on tour, in St. Helens, that Justin fella, Mr Tumble was in it.

  2. Nice! I like how you showed the progression a bit. I'm going to add my before's and after's to my post as well. I think it makes things more interesting to see the thought process behind the final piece.

  6. Thanks to all for your lovely comments. I had intended to draw a NEW chicken, but it's nice to look at old things again. I'll try to do something NEW this week.

Didn't make a habit of watching PLAYDAYS, Duncan, but my sister Sue Cony drew pictures of all the characters which were scattered throughout the magazine, as well the front covers for a couple of years. Was Mr Tumble the stripey-jumpered moustachioed acrobat?

  10. I like her face and how you did the feathers, they add texture. And it is always very interesting to see a work's progression: thanks for sharing!
